Week #5 Results

1/25/10

Division 1
Kenan Cerkez paced Comcast with 28 points in their 54-45 victory over Cameron’s Gulf. Kenny Fairneny showcased a nice outside touch, while Matt Murphy and Cody Strong played tough defense. Jeff Perez, Chris Burkhard, and Pat Mcaleney had solid games for Cameron’s. Mike Sinopoli’s layup in the game’s final seconds provided the winning points in a 56-55 victory for the undefeated Weymouth Sharks over Councilor T.J. Lacey. The Shark’s Andy Manoli finished with a game high 18 points, while Robert Glennon and Bailey Finch led the Sharks’ pressure defense. Jon Barrows, Aaron Drew, Andrew Fortes all had good games for Councilor Lacey. Pat Sheehan and James Lamoure led D.L. Foote and Sons to a 54-44 win over Councilor Paul J Leary. Chris Taccini and Will Carriere played great games on both ends of the court. Sean Kupris was a beast on the offensive glass and Carl Morcy played outstanding defense for Councilor Leary. Despite a 37 point effort from Connor Deegan, Mitchelson Club was able to hold off Rothwell Landscaping 48-46. Mike Powers, Ryan Andrews, David Rothwell and Matt Healey had good games.

Division 2
Andrew Johns and Devin Daly provided the spark that helped Comcast edge South Shore Savings 15-14. Mike Detullio, Joe Hally and Dagan Ficillio played superior defense. Dunkin Donuts played great team defense and soundly defeated Ace Hardware 39-25. John Sheehan and Ben Flynn combined for 22 points and Ace’s Ryan Craig finished with a team high 11 points. South Shore Sports Therapy’s running game was too much for Weymouth Bank. Logan Smith finished with 21 points, while teams mates Justin Willy and Doug O’Brien finished with 8 and 6 respectively. Fabianno Florist’s got past Fireplace Connection 29-25. Sam Brown netted 8 points in defeat. Rothwell Landscaping defeated the Rogers Law Firm 32-28.

Division 3 (Hennelly Division)
Tommy Jakiltsch and Kolby Sang led CQ Painting past Weymouth Police 32-29. CQ Painting’s finished with a game high 16 points while Nick Spinella (10 pts) and Jared Newman (12 pts) provided most of the offense for Weymouth Police. The MBTA Credit Union was defeated by Jimmy’s Diner. The Rogers Law Firm bested Quincy Credit Union 34-29. Will Spring paced the Rogers Law Firm with 9 points in the first frame. Drew Lovely led his team with 8 points. Jack Laub, Trey Randolph, JP Waegerman and Andrew Clark all played well. Dunkin Donuts Kevin O’Brien poured in 21 points in a 42-30 win over Dentistry for Children. John Maloney led Dentistry for Children with 11 points. Weymouth Bank topped Comcast 38-35 in a shootout. Cameron Powers had the hot hand in the second half scoring 13 points of his team high 17 points in the final half. Robert Jones led all scorers with 18 points. South Weymouth Barber Shop Anthony Debello’s 20 points helped his team hand The Scappichio Law Offices their first loss of the year by a score of 46-36. Coaches praised the defense played by Richard Heath, Ewan Geyer, Brendan McGillivray and Liam Butler. Rothwell Landscape used a well balanced offensive attack to defeat South Weymouth Knights of Columbus 39-27.

Travel League
The South Shore League 7th grade travel team notched their first win of the year over Norwell. JB Bruynell scored 13 points including a go ahead three pointer. Defensively, Richard Altieri, Anthony Dinatale, Derris Allen and Dalvin Lopes shut down the Norwell guards the entire second half. Big men Trevon Hargrove (18 pts) , Austin Holland and Adam Burns (10 pts) controlled the boards and played outstanding games. Matt Bishop (6 pts), Joe Brav and Derek Carvalho handled the wings and made some nifty passes. Coach Deegan praised the play of Altieri and Allen, “ I was concerned because our best defensive player, Christos Papadoulos, was not able to play today. Our backups really stepped up and made the difference.” In the Coastal Prep league action the WJBL 5th grade team defeated Whitman 26-19.

Week #3 Results

1/12/10

Division 1
Zach Sanborn lead The Weymouth Sharks (3-0) in a 42-34 victory over Comcast. Mike Concannon and Leviti Douglas made great contributions on defense for the Sharks. Tim Dennehey and Liam Torney played well. Kyle Foote lead D.L. Foote and Sons to a 57-36 victory over Rothwell Landscaping. Mike Connaire and Zach Devine worked well in the offensive zone, while Patrick Harenda and Tom Francois added pressure on defense. Connor Deegan, playing center, scored 20 points and James Davey and Kaiden Rivera added consistent play for Rothwell Landscaping. Steven Presente had a dominating performance, netting 28 points in Mitchelson Club’s 70-40 victory over Councilor Paul J. Leary. Cody Sullivan and Paul Archibald contributed with strong efforts in the win. Tim McCue scored 11, and Troy Whalen was great on both offense and defense for Councilor Leary. Ed Deluca and Jon Barrows led Councilor T.J. Lacey to a 43-32 win against Cameron’s Gulf. Dave Keenan and Matt Mueller led a defense that shut down Cameron’s scorers. Mike Umano and Brendan White showed good shooting touches, while Tyler Mallon and Jack Harkins added tough defense for Cameron

Division 2
The Fireplace Connection’s Matt Long was red hot and finished with 17 points in a 29-21 victory over The Rogers Law Firm. Shawn Gately and Brian Garland had great defensive games for The Rogers Law Firm. Sam Brown and Dillon Kinsella set the tone defensively while Christian Arce controlled the boards. Logan Smith and Brian Umano provided most of the offense in a 22-16 victory for South Shore Sports over Rothwell Landscaping. Rothwell Lanscaping’s Michael Donohoe played great on both offense and defense and Michael Irving contributed a couple of key baskets. Isaiah Zooleck and Joshua Ahern played outstanding defense. Park Avenue Ace Hardware topped Weymouth Bank 34-24. South Shore Savings edged Dunkin Donuts behind 7 points from Liam Hally. Liam Hennessey, Derek Carvalho and Jack Sheehan had strong games. Fabiano Florist bested Comcast 25-24. Sam Corcoran set many picks to free up teammate Josh Holmes. Matt O’Neill led the defensive effort for the “Fab 5”. Derek Comeau hit a key basket late for Comcast, while teammate Brian Christo controlled the boards all game.

Division 3 (Hennelly Division)
Dunkin Donuts Chris Deluca scored 10 points in a 26 – 24 victory over South Weymouth Knights of Columbus. Dave Liddell matched Deluca’s 10 points in defeat. South Weymouth Barber Shop beat CQ Painting 30-27 in a back and forth game that was decided in the final moments. South Weymouth Barber Shop was lead by Anthony DeBello who finished with 7 points and 9 assists. CQ Painting’s Brian Keating and Amondee Weaver combined for 18 points. Weymouth Bank’s balanced scoring proved too much for Jimmy’s Diner. Coaches praised the efforts of Jordan O’Donnell, Cameron Powers, Garrett Tobin and Steve Legere. The swarming defense and excellent passing exhibited by the Weymouth Police contributed to their win over The MBTA Credit Union. Nick Spenella, Colin Higgins, Grady Shea, Cam Norling, Aiden Gallegos, Bobby O’Neal and Matt Gaudet all had excellent games. Terrific defense from Eric Farrell, Liam O’Donovan and Nick Riley led the Rogers Law Firm past Comcast. Sean Kennedy, Robert Jones, Patrick Kennedy, Joe Severance and Nick Phillips played well. Rothwell Landscape just got past Quincy Credit Union 23-21. Brett Jamieson, Aidan Hally, Chris Page, Cam Antonowicz, Matt McCabe, Andrew Clark and Jack Laub had nice games. Scapicchio Law Offices beat Dentistry for Children 31-23. The Scapicchio Law Office defense tightened in the final frame to thwart a late comeback. Sean Sullivan, Dakota McDonald, Jake MacDonald, Allan Bovata, David Canavan, Steve Guarogo, Malyk Green, Jack Barber and James Leahy each did their part in the second half. Richard Heath, Joe Walsh and Evan Geyer had great games for the winning team.

Travel League
The 8th Grade Boys defeated Braintree in South Shore League Action. In The South Shore Prep League the 4th and 5th Grade Teams defeated Rockland. In the Coastal Prep league action the WJBL 5th grade team defeated Whitman 26-19. The South Shore 8th graders defeated Braintree for the second time in 10 days and defeated Norwell.

Calendar Raffle Drive

WJBL FUNDRAISER/CELTICS TICKETS

The WJBL has begun its annual Calendar Raffle Drive.  This is the only fundraiser that the WJBL undertakes for our town leagues.  The WJBL has worked hard to keep registration fees down for its participants.  This annual fundraiser is important for the league as we continue to strive to provide a great program for a minimum cost.  As has already been announced, as an incentive this year, the WJBL has added several extraordinary prizes for both the Instructional League (Grades 1 through 3) and Conferences I through III:

 

Instructional League

For every calendar a player in the Instructional League sells by January 30, 2010, that player will receive one entry in a drawing for two tickets to the Boston Celtics v. Sacramento Kings game on Friday, March 26, 2010.  The seats are located in the Loge 13, Row 6.  Thanks to Amity Insurance and Robin Morse for this terrific prize.

 

Conferences I through III

The player in Conferences I through III who sells the most calendars by January 31, 2010, will receive a pair of tickets to a Boston Celtics game to be determined.  Thanks to Mr. Mark Buckley for this great prize.

 

The team in Conferences I through III which sells the most calendars by January 31, 2010, will receive tickets to the Boston Celtics v. Cleveland Cavaliers game on Sunday, April 4, 2010.  Each player will receive a ticket for him and one parent/guardian.  Transportation will not be provided by the WJBL.  The players on the winning team and their parents/guardians will be guests of Dunkin Donuts.  They will have a designated area down by courtside before the game to watch warm-ups, have a picture taken with one of the Celtics and then be escorted to their seats.  This is an unbelievable prize.  Thanks to Dunkin Donuts.  To be eligible for the team prize, a player will have to have sold at least five calendars.  Any player on a team that wins the team prize who has not sold at least five calendars will not be eligible for his or her two tickets.  All calendar sales must be received by the respective Conference Coordinators from the Team Coaches by 4:00 p.m. on January 31, 2010.

 

Additionally in Conferences I through III for every 5 calendars a player sells by January 31, 2010, that player will receive one entry in a drawing for two tickets to the Boston Celtics game to be determined.  Thanks to Mr. Mark Buckley for this great prize.

Week #2 Results

12/20/09

Division 1
Ryan Barker and Matt McQuade led a 44-30 Councilor Paul J. Leary victory over Rothwell with superb play on both ends of the court. Chris Ames scored 9 and Andrew Stieb netted 15 to give Councilor Leary their first win. Ryaad Mitchner and Joe Long gave strong defensive efforts and Matt Healey provided a nice outside touch for Rothwell. James Lamour was absolutely dominant down low, adding 22 points in D.L Foote and Sons’ 66-43 victory over Michelson Club. Kyle Foote and Cory Folsom came up big on offense, while Billy Carriere, Zack Devine, and Chris Taccini played tough D. Jason Brooks and Brendan Butler made good offensive contributions for Michelson Club despite the loss. Kenan Cerkez and Kenny Fairneny showed off their outstanding shooting, each contributing 17 points in Comcast’s 55-39 win over Councilor T.J Lacey. Jon Barrows gave a good offensive performance for Councilor Lacey, while Curtis Calley was a force on defense. Andy Manoli and Mike Sinopoli combined for 42 points in Weymouth Sharks’ 55-40 victory over Cameron’s Gulf. Steve Karlberg and Bailey Finch provided strong pressure D for the Sharks. Mike Bythrow played a great two way game, and Jack Harkins and Dan Ridge handled the ball well under pressure.

Division 2
South Shore Sports Therapy’s Brian Umano and Logan Smith sunk 4 free throws in a 23-20 victory over Comcast. Henry McDonald gave a tremendous defensive effort and Chris O’Sullivan controlled the offense for Comcast. Fabiano Florist jumped out to a quick lead and never looked back in a 30-10 win over South Shore Savings Bank. JB Bruynell was on fire and finished with a game high 11 points. Michael Dwyer led the defensive effort with 5 steals and Jacob White controlled the boards. Rothwell Landscaping beat Dunkin Donuts 32-25. Park Avenue Ace Hardware got past The Fireplace Connection 45-33. Both coaches commented on the effort from Anthony Dinatalie, John Budenas, Christain Arce, Kevin Lyons, Tom Nolan and James Carbone. The Rogers Law Firm Beat Weymouth Bank 24-14, led by strong efforts from Cian Flaherty and Michael Blanchard.

Division 3 (Hennelly Division)
South Weymouth Barber shop topped MBTA Credit Union 40-16. Scapicchio Law Firm edged CQ Painting 43-40 on a late 3 pointer from Hunter Lloyd. Brendan McGilvary, Evan Geyer, Nick Dirksmeier, Brendan Quinn and Tommy Jaklitsch all performed well. Dunkin Donuts stole one from the Weymouth Police 30-28. In a game that featured 6 lead changes needed every one of Nick Stuzzieri’s 6 points in the final frame (8 total) to seal the win. Weymouth Police was paced by Jared Newman who finished with 10 points. Tim Keely, Sean Tyrell and Tom Gable all had outstanding games. Rothwell Landscape bulldozed Weymouth Bank 48-27 with a balanced attack. Seven Rothwell Landscape players scored and none had more than Danny Keenan who finished with a game high 22. Matt McCabe had a solid effort as did defensive standout Cam Antonowicz. Dentistry for Children put the bite on South Weymouth K of C with a convincing 35-27 win. Dakota McDonald, David Canavan, Allan Bovata and Jake Mahoney combined for most of the Dentistry offense. Patrick Sullivan played tough defense throughout and Andrew Reynolds had some nifty assists. The Rogers Law Firm scored a 31-25 victory over Jimmy’s Diner. Ryan Hayes and James Rogers each scored key baskets to help preserve the win. Alex Kennedy had 15 points for Jimmy’s Diner. Comcast defeated Quincy Credit Union 27-21. Shawn Rice (6 pts.) and Shawn Kennedy had good games.

Division 1
The Weymouth Sharks took a bite out of Rothwell Landscaping behind a solid performance by Zach Sanborne, Andrew Manoli, Mike Sinopoli and Patrick Finell. Connor Deegan led a failed Rothwell Landscaping comeback with 24 points in the second half and finished with a game high 30 points. Joshua Wallace and Jeff Perez lead Cameron’s Gulf past Councilor Paul J. Leary 49-31. Sean Kupris paced Councilor Paul J. Leary with 12 points. Comcast’s Tim Dennehy netted 13 points but his team was defeated by D.L. Foote and Sons. Councilor T.J. Lacey posted a solid defensive effort in a 61-46 victory over Mitchelson Club. Both Coaches praised the defensive effort of Andrew Fortes, Brendan Kilban and Dave Keenan. Dave Andrews scored 19 points in defeat.

Division 2
The Rogers Law Firm’s Joe Brav and Devin Garland paced their team in a 18-16 victory over Comcast. Eric Sacchetti and Shane Lynch played outstanding defense for Comcast. Fabiano Florist recovered from a slow start and went on to defeat Weymouth Bank 35 -18. Weymouth Bank was lead by Alex Mercurio’s 8 points. Dunkin Donuts defense was too much for The Fireplace Connection. Liam Hennessey (8 pts.), Jack Sheehan (6 pts.), Mark Petrucelli (6 pts.) and Matt Long (6 pts.) were the game’s high scorers. South Shore Sports Therapy lost a heart breaker at the final buzzer when Park Avenue Ace Hardware’s Ryan Craig hit a long three pointer to put his team ahead 20-17. Rothwell Landscaping defeated South Shore Saving 18-9.

Division 3 (Hennelly Division)
CQ Painting dropped a close game to Comcast 46–43 after surrendering a 14-11 lead. Pat Kennedy’s 10 second half points helped close the gap Brian Keating led all scorers with 23 points. Rothwell Landscape bested Dentistry for Children 34-28. Dentistry for Children made a great comeback after falling behind by 16 points in the first half. Dakota McDonald finished with 10 points and Sean Kennan had 7 steals. Brett Jamieson and Dan Keenan had 8 apiece for Rothwell Landscape. Scappichio Law Offices defeated MBTA Credit Union. Julian Mincey was unstoppable and finished with 32 points and 20 rebounds. MBTA’s coach commented “We were missing a few players today and played with a short rotation. I’m very proud of the effort today.” Cameron Powers of Weymouth Bank deposited 14 points in a 26-16 win over Weymouth Police. Jarred Newman, Steve Legree, Nick Spinella and Niko Spadea had great efforts. Quincy Credit Union’s JP Waegerman’s 12 points proved the difference in a 25 – 13 win over Jimmy’s Diner. Sean Owen had a bucket and was very active on both ends of the floor. South Weymouth Barber Shop buzzed Dunkin Donuts behinds 20 points from Anthony Debello. Rashaad Milchner, Kevin O’Brien and Nick Struzzieri each had fine games. The Rogers Law Firm defeated The South Weymouth Knights of Columbus 30-25 despite 10 points from Nathan Ordway. Both coaches raved about the defensive efforts of Will Spring, Ryan Morahan, Justin Albee and Mark Murphy.

Travel Leagues
Weymouth’s 4th Grade Coastal Prep team defeated Green Harbor in Marshfield. Our Patriot League teams swept Cohasset and the 8th Grade South Shore team defeated Canton.

Families registering two children in the town league will pay a maximum of $200. Families registering three or more children in the town league will pay a maximum of $300.

TEAM ASSIGNMENT
There is an effort to balance all teams in The WJBL. At registration, any players signing up for the Hennelly Division, any new players to Division II and any new players to Division I will be assigned an evaluation time to assess each player’s ability such that the teams can be balanced and competitive.

Though unlikely, WJBL reserves the right to limit the number of players in each division based on available facilities.

TRAVEL PROGRAM
The travel program provides for two travel teams in each grade from grades 4 through 8. This is a competitive program for the top players in each grade. The travel program is open to Weymouth residents only.
